Why “Ikigai”
生き甲斐 — ikigai — is the Japanese word for the reason a person gets up in the morning. It sits where what you are good at, what you enjoy and what people actually need all overlap.
It is a serious word for a landscaping company to borrow, so we try to earn it the only way available to us: by doing ordinary work to an unusual standard. A straight edge. A clean stripe. A driveway cleared before six. Nobody writes poetry about that — but you notice immediately when it is missing.
